1. What is pat radio?
pat radio is a non-profit, independent, commercial-free internet radio station. We are committed to making it easy and inexpensive for anyone who has something to say and/or something to play to get on the internet airwaves.
2. Why is it called pat radio?
The adjectival definition of the word "pat", as defined by The Random House Dictionary of the English Language is "exactly to the point or purpose". Nothing could describe pat radio better. Further, the dictionary states that pat means "learned, known or mastered perfectly or exactly". One need only listen to realize that this is an apt description of the quality broadcasting that is pat radio. Also, it could have something with a guy named Pat, who started pat radio, and who, because he's an egomaniac, named the station after himself.
3. Why can't I connect to pat radio using Windows Media Player?
Well, some people can. Some people can't, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why. If you have iTunes, Real Player, or Winamp, start that application up before clicking on "Listen Live". Then select the icon for that application. Problem solved. If you still have trouble connecting with something other than WMP, let Pat know via the Request-a-Tron.
4. I have a dial-up connection. Can I listen to pat radio?
Yes. We now offer a 32 kbps stream, which sounds okay and should fit through a phone line.
5. I am a songwriter / musician / in a band. Can I get my stuff played on pat radio?
Possibly, but you'll have to get your music to us one of two ways. You can e-mail your mp3s to , or if you have a CD or CD-R, you can mail it to us at:

6. What's with the monkey and the robot?
Think of the monkey and the robot as the yin and yang of pat radio. The monkey represents the primal, the visceral response to beat and tonality. The monkey wants to, and needs to, rock. The robot represents the ordered, structured, patterned creation of beats and sounds. While the robot appeals to a different area of the listener's musical soul, the effect can often be the same as music largely in the realm of the monkey. While temporary swings towards all-monkey or all-robot music can be quite enjoyable, we here at pat radio believe that balance or stasis between the monkey and the robot is optimal. And of course, monkeys and robots are cool.
