pat radio focuses on the Columbus, Ohio music scene. We do regular podcasts which feature live performances from local and regional bands and musicians. We also have guest d.j.s from time to time. You can stream any of the latest shows from the built-in player, and more information about each show is below.
Blubrry.com has a nifty little player for streaming the podcasts. It allows you to fast-forward and rewind, which is something you can't do with the player above. It'll pop-up in a separate window when you click here.
For those of you who do the podcast feed subscription thing, here are a number of different options for you:

This is a companion piece to this week's The Offense Newsletter podcast. The Cocteau Twins played one of five shows in the U.S. in September of 1985 at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio. It was big enough news to warrant not one but two nights of coverage on local tv station WBNS.
Dig those new-wave hair styles and Curt Scheiber's ripped jeans!
Tim Anstaett, publisher of The Offense fanzine, is my guest this week. He talks about The Offense and plays some great local music from back in the day. He also shares some stuff from shows he promoted in Columbus. Bands you may have heard of before, like the Pixies, the Fall, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Throwing Muse, and Cocteau Twins.

Some of you might recognize the band name Clem Snide more than you will its singer and songwriter, Eef Barzelay. But at this particular juncture, Clem Snide is Eef Barzelay and Eef Barzelay is Clem Snide. Barzelay recently released another album, and I've got a song from it to lay on you. It was hard for me to pick just one. I thought first of going for one of the numerous loud, rockin' numbers because it illustrates that, if I'm reading the news correctly, this disc started out as a Clem Snide project but eventually was released under Barzelay's name. His 2006 release, Bitter Honey was a solo acoustic affair, so it's refreshing to hear the amped-up tunes on this new record.
Instead, I picked the quieter "True Freedom" because it illustrates Barzelay's ability to create poignant and chilling characters in song. "True Freedom" is the first-person musings of a teenage suicide.
Right-click (or Cntrl + click on a Mac) this link and select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" in order to download this song: Eef Barzelay - True Freedom
Thanks to Bruce Rosendahl and the good people at 429 records for allowing me to post this tune. Pick up Lose Big at your favorite independent record shop. If you're desperate, it's on Amazon.
More importantly, see Eef Barzelay at the Rumba Cafe on Friday, August 8. Friend of pat radio Lydia Loveless is opening.
Video Bonus
Here's the video for the title track to Eef's latest record, Lose Big.
I guess promises were made to be broken. No new podcast this week either. I promise great things soon, though.
Like last week, I did submit a show to WCRS. This week it's all excerpts from the various live sessions I've done over the past year. Music from Paper Airplane, The Umbrella Men, Bird and Flower, Jerry DeCicca, and Lydia Loveless. So if you're near a radio at 6 p.m. tonight, tune to WCRS (102.1 near Easton. 98.3 near Marblecliff/Grandview) and enjoy.
There's no new podcast this week. I did submit a show to WCRS, so if you need your pat radio fix, tune in to 102.1 or 98.3 depending on what part of town you live in, at 6 p.m. tonight.
I promise to be back with a new program next Wednesday. Enjoy your summer!
There are two benefit shows this Saturday in Columbus, and I dedicate one half of the show to each. First we hear a bunch of bands and solo artists who are playing at Ruby Tuesday for the WCRS benefit. Then I turn my attention to the seventh annual Volatility Festival, which benefits Madlab Theatre. I play some of the bands playing Volatility and chat with Andy Batt, Managing Director of Madlab.
Lydia Loveless performs four songs live on this edition of pat radio. She talks about the cd she's working on and plugs some upcoming shows. Ben Co also confirmed today that Lydia has been added to the Eef Barzelay show at the Rumba on August 8.
I also mention the sad passing of Noel Sayre, who was a member of the Black Swans and Pretty Mighty Mighty. The details of his memorial service and memorial fund are as follows:
